Laura & Nick booked me as their wedding guitarist in York on the 17th June 2017 at Barmbyfield Barns to perform during the Ceremony, Drinks reception & Wedding Breakfast.
Ceremony
The ceremony took place in the aptly named ‘Ceremony Barn’ with it’s high beamed ceiling, and exposed brickwork it is the perfect setting for a rustic wedding ceremony. Laura walked down the aisle to Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez, which is a really beautiful song, and Laura timed it perfectly by walking to the front just as I sang “We had a promise made, we were in love”.
There was no register to sign, as Laura and Nick actually did the formal legal bit a couple of days before, instead they decided to have a Humanist Ceremony, which is a non religious, unique way of celebrating your marriage. Laura & Nick each wrote their own vows, and readings focusing on the qualities they love about each other, and how their strong family life has shaped their relationship. It really was such a beautiful, open, honest ceremony, and by the end I almost felt as If I’d known them both for years!
Nick and Laura then concluded the ceremony by walking out to ‘All you need is Love by The Beatles’. A popular choice for wedding ceremonies, mainly because it was featured in the film ‘Love Actually’. Although, I was rather disappointed no guests jumped out of their seats with a Trumpet, or Trombone! Nevertheless it is probably THE perfect song for a wedding ceremony… “All you need is Love, Love is all you need”.
Drinks Reception
The drinks reception took place outside in the (you guessed it!) ‘Outside Barn’ an open fronted barn where drinks and canapés were being served whilst guests enjoyed more acoustic music. Laura and Nick picked all their favourite indie songs for me to perform which included The Black Keys, The Lumineers, The Strokes, Mumford & Sons, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The Coral – All bands I enjoy listening to myself.
Wedding Breakfast
The wedding breakfast took place in the main barn, a very large light and airy room with exposed beams, and slight industrial feel. All the tables, and decorations looked amazing, as the amazing cake provided by White Cherry Bakery.
I performed another 2 x 45 mins sets during the meal of Indie songs mixed with classics by Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles which was meant to be just background music as guests enjoyed their food – but eventually resulted in a sing along, and even dancing!
